Eschew Obfuscation – Avoid Confusion

Share |

Whether it is article writing, blog posting or just sharing a thought. The simple logic is to follow basic ideas to convey a message and create effective communication. Let us in this post, have a quick look at it:

Write simply - Make it easier for the reader to understand your content with simple words, sentences, directions and explanations, images and graphics.

Write concisely – Make it easy for your readers to find what exactly they want without much beating around the bush.

Assume the reader is naive – Make an assumption that the reader's knowledge is very limited and explain it in detail to ensure more readability.

Use the active voice – Make use of active voice to ensure an active passage and the content being active in talking to your reader.

Use the present tense – Make it short an direct by using present tense instead of past or present continuous.

Use positive statements – Make best use of positive words. Do not say it negative or use negative words. Say the wrong thing in the right way.

Use common words and not jargons – Make no assumptions that your reader knows all the hi-fi words. Use simple words instead of the jargons.

Avoid acronyms – Make sure you use full words throughout the content even if the same word is repeated many times. Else, the reader will not get the definition if he skips.

Coherent information - Lead the reader logically and sequentially through related information throughout your content.
